La Crosse Technology WS-8035U-AL
Wireless Weather Station with Atomic Clock, in Aluminum Finish
|
|
|
| The La Crosse
Technology WS-8035U-AL weather forecaster is the reduced cost little
brother to the La Crosse Technology WS-8025 series weather stations,
sharing the barometric pressure reading and bar graph, but having fewer alarm
functions and lacking the
WS-8025's sunrise, sunset, moonrise and moonset time information.

Styled
in black with brushed aluminum accent columns, the WS-8035AL is a
near-professional weather station with an atomic moon phase clock.
|
The
WS-8035U-AL features a
four section display. The top section consists of a self-setting
(atomic) alarm clock, displaying time, date, and moon phase, or alternately,
alarm time.
Directly
below that, the indoor section displays indoor temperature and
humidity, with a comfort level icon, or alternately, the minimum or maximum
indoor temperature and humidity since last reset.
Section three, the forecast
section, displays a forecast icon (one of three) indicating fair,
improving, or worsening weather, the barometric pressure, and a bar
graph showing barometric pressure history.
Section four, the
outdoor section displays outdoor temperature and humidity, for up
to 3 remote locations (one remote transmitter is included),
or alternately, the minimum or maximum temperature and humidity
since last reset.

|
|
|
Outdoor
temperature and humidity are transmitted to the station via an included
TX4U remote sensor/transmitter. The station can actually receive
signals from a total of three remote transmitters. Additional
transmitters (described below) are optional and sold separately.
The
station keeps a record of the minimum and maximum indoor and outdoor
temperatures and humidity it has recorded. Indoor minimum and maximum
readings are available at the push of a button. Outdoor minimum and
maximum readings are displayed along with the current readings. A
clever feature that works in conjunction with the station's indoor
humidity indicator is an indoor comfort level indicator with happy and
sad face icons.
The
station also has a weather-forecasting feature with three indicator
icons, and a 24-hour air-pressure history bar graph. The weather-forecasting
feature senses barometric pressure over time and adjusts the indicator
icons to provide accurate forecasts based on pressure trends.
An
incredibly accurate atomic clock with calendar display and alarm
(including snooze function) rounds out the many features of this
station.
The WS-8035AL
has a wide
variety of programmable functions. For example, barometric pressure can
be displayed as absolute or relative in either hPa (hecto Pascals) or
inHg (inches of mercury). Temperatures can be displayed in °F or °C. Time can be
displayed as 12-hour or 24-hour, and the clock can be optioned to
automatically adjust for daylight saving time. Even the LCD display
contrast can be adjusted for any of 8 different levels.
Not
only will the station operate with up to three remote transmitters, four different transmitters are available. The TX4U included with the
station reports both outdoor temperature and humidity. The available TX6U
reports outdoor temperature, but also has no display of its own. The
available TX3U reports
and displays outdoor temperature only. The available TX3UP senses temperature via
a probe on a 10-foot (3-meter) wire for use in pools, spas, soil, etc.,
and also has a display for local viewing.
The station's clock
calibrates itself to the world's most accurate clock every night by
receiving WWVB radio transmissions. These transmissions contain time
information from the U.S. atomic clock source, operated by the U.S.
Commerce Department near Boulder, Colorado. The built-in antenna
ensures reliable signal reception up to 2000 miles (3200 km) from the
WWVB transmitter.
The
station is medium in size (about 10 inches tall) and smartly styled in
black with contrasting brushed aluminum accent columns. Its main
displays are large for easy reading. An integral folding stand allows
the station to be used as a freestanding unit, or it can mounted on a
wall.

 | La Crosse Technology TX3U Remote Sensor with Display The La Crosse Technology TX3U temperature sender senses temperature only, and has a temperature display on the sender. The TX3U uses 2 AAA batteries.

| | La Crosse Technology TX3UP Remote Sensor with Display and Waterproof Probe The La Crosse Technology TX3UP temperature sender has a waterproof probe and a temperature display on the sender. The La Crosse Technology TX3UP may be used to monitor soil temperature, pool temperature, hot tub temperature, freezer or refrigerator temperature, or may be placed indoors with the probe routed outdoors through a window for extreme climates. The TX3UP uses 2 AAA batteries.

| | | La Crosse Technology TX6U Remote Sensor The La Crosse Technology TX6U is the more common remote temperature only sensor for the La Crosse Technology weather instruments. The La Crosse Technology TX6U does not have a display of it’s own. The TX6U uses 2 AA batteries, and is excellent for use for extended periods of operation in cold temperatures. In harsh climates, the alkaline batteries in the TX6U may be replaced with Lithium batteries for extended low temperature operation.
