With
the
La Crosse Technology WS-7047U Wireless Rain Gauge,
you can monitor and display rainfall amounts plus indoor and outdoor temperatures
from the comfort of your home--and possibly for some of you, from your
workplace. The digits in the WS-7047U display station's 2-line LCD panel
are bold and almost half an inch tall for easy viewing (tenths of a
degree are a little smaller). The rainfall amount is shown continuously
in the top line of the LCD panel. Press the IN/OUT/RESET button on the display
station momentarily to alternate between indoor and outdoor temperature
in the second line.

The WS-7047U Wireless
Rain Gauge monitors and displays not only rainfall amounts but also indoor
and outdoor temperature. This weather instrument consists of three
separate units. One is the display station, which has an integral
indoor thermometer. The other two units are wireless remote
sensor/transmitters, one for rainfall and one for outdoor
temperature. The display
station is conservatively styled in black to fit unobtrusively into
almost any home or office decor scheme. If you need a wireless
digital rain gauge and thermometer combo without a lot of bells and
whistles, the WS-7047U is an excellent and economical choice.

The
WS-7047U is a basic wireless rain gauge without fancy
features such as memory, alarms, bar graph history, and
long-distance transmission. Also, the LCD panel on this
unit is not backlit. The WS-7047U display station is quite
compact at just over 4 inches tall by 3-1/2 inches wide.
It shows temperatures in °F
and rainfall in inches. The displayed rainfall amount is
the cumulative total since the display station's last
reset. The
WS-7047U's temperature resolution is 0.1°F, and rainfall
resolution is 0.01 inch. Maximum rainfall that can be
displayed is a generous 199.99 inches, and you can reset
the display at any time simply by holding the display
station's IN/OUT/RESET button depressed for 3 seconds. The
rainfall remote that comes with the WS-7047U is the TX5U,
and the outdoor temperature remote is the TX6U. Both
remotes transmit their data to the display station
via 433 MHz radio
signals. The TX5U rainfall remote is conveniently
self-emptying. These two non-displaying remotes are
standard La Crosse Technology products that are readily
available if replacement ever becomes necessary. The
WS-7047U display station and both remotes are
powered by two (1.5V) alkaline batteries. The batteries are not included and must be
purchased separately. Expected battery life for both the display
station and the
remotes is approximately 1 year. If you
will be using the TX6U temperature remote in sub-freezing
conditions, we recommend using lithium AA batteries
instead of alkaline. Lithium batteries retain power to
about -40°F (-40°C).
The WS-7047U
display station
comes with a table
stand already attached. All you have to do is place the
display station
in an appropriate
location on a shelf, desk, table, or other flat surface.
The stand can be easily removed, however, if you wish to
hang the display station
on a wall.
The TX5U
rainfall remote can simply be placed in the desired
location, or it can be secured to a flat surface with
screws. The TX6U temperature remote mounts on a wall or
other vertical surface by means of an included mounting
bracket. You can attach the bracket to the wall either
with two-sided tape or with screws. The TX6U then
snaps securely into the bracket.
If you're
looking for a digital wireless rain gauge and thermometer
combo without a lot of frills, the WS-7047U is an excellent
choice. This is one weather instrument that is very easy
to set up and use, and just as easy on the budget.

The La Crosse Technology TX6U is the more common remote temperature only sensor for the La Crosse Technology weather instruments. The La Crosse Technology TX6U does not have a display of it’s own. The TX6U uses 2 AA batteries, and is excellent for use for extended periods of operation in cold temperatures. In harsh climates, the alkaline batteries in the TX6U may be replaced with Lithium batteries for extended low temperature operation.
